Adjunct Instructor Certificate (Alt Option 4 – Adjunct Instructor Certification) (KY)

Description
A applicant meeting these requirements is employed in a part-time position on an annual contract basis and is not eligible for continuing service status or retirement provisions. A school district may contract with an adjunct instructor on an hourly, daily, or periodic basis.
Certificate Valid for Annual contract
This route will never lead to full state certification and will not help meet NCLB “highly qualified” requirements.

Minimum Academic Background
In most states, teachers must have a minimum academic background for certification.
The following is required for this route:
BA Degree + Major in Content Language

GPA: 2.5

Notes
A cumulative GPA of 2.50 on a 4.0 scale OR a GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale on the last sixty (60) hours of credit completed.

As of 2016, No Basic Skills Exams Required

Teacher Preparation
In most states, teachers are required to complete training in education methods through a teacher program.
The following is required for this route:

The local school district must provide an orientation program for adjunct instructors to include an emphasis on student safety, district policies and procedures, and pedagogical assistance commensurate with the New Teacher Standards.

Content Language and English Language Proficiency
In most states, teachers are required to submit evidence of content language proficiency and English language proficiency through coursework, exams, or degree evaluations.
The following is required for this route:

Content Language Proficiency:

Course needed: A major, minor, or area of concentration in the specialty subject to be taught; or a master’s degree in the specialty subject to be taught.
