Minimum Academic Background
In most states, teachers must have a minimum academic background for certification.
The following is required for this route:
BA Degree + Completed State Approved Teacher Education Program
BA Degree + 18 Units for MA
BA Degree + MA Degree

Prior Certification: Must Hold Current (STATE) Certification

-BA + Completion of teacher program AND
-18 semester credit hours in an approved out of state Master’s program OR
-BA + Completion of teacher program + MA or other higher degree.

Teacher Preparation

Course needed: 3 credit hours of reading methods

Notes:
The applicant holds national board certification or has completed a teacher leader training or preparation program

The applicant has received 5 consecutive effective or highly effective ratings in the most recent 5-year period.
