Description
Through ARTC, qualified individuals complete certification requirements while they are employed as full-time teachers, through a state-approved program of professional education course work, accompanied by intensive, school-based supervision and mentoring in lieu of student teaching.

Minimum Academic Background
In most states, teachers must have a minimum academic background for certification.
The following is required for this route:
BA Degree + Major in Content Language

GPA: 3.0

Prior Certification: Must NOT have Current (STATE) Certification

Basic Skills
In most states, teachers must verify basic skills in English (Reading and Writing) and Mathematics through coursework, exams, or degree evaluations.

Notes
For purposes of ARTC eligibility, 30 college credits in a subject is regarded as equivalent to a college major. The only exception to the 30-credit single critical need subject requirement is world languages, in which subject a native speaker may qualify with a bachelor’s degree in a subject other than the target language.

An applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited 4 year college or university.

Official transcripts shall be forwarded directly from the issuing institution or by the applicant in an unopened, unaltered envelope.

Teacher Preparation
In most states, teachers are required to complete training in education methods through a teacher program.
The following is required for this route:

Course needed: ARTC Seminars 1,2,3 and 12 hours EDUC courses.

Content Language and English Language Proficiency
In most states, teachers are required to submit evidence of content language proficiency and English language proficiency through coursework, exams, or degree evaluations.

If ACTFL tests are not available in the content language, must meet one of the following:
1) Specialized education;
OR
2) Approved Certification of Content Knowledge.

Native speakers of languages other than English, who have at least a bachelor’s degree in any subject, may now qualify to teach their native language through ARTC.

Upon completion of the ARTC program, the following is required for licensure/certification:
1. Letter of completion from the Delaware Alternative Program
2. Official transcript verifying successful completion of all ARTC courses;
3. An original letter from the employing district/charter attesting to satisfactory teaching performance and recommendation for certification.
