Applicants who meet one or more of the following criteria may be exempt from the Praxis Core:
1) Masters degree

Teacher Preparation
In most states, teachers are required to complete training in education methods through a teacher program.

In most states, teachers are required to submit evidence of content language proficiency and English language proficiency through coursework, exams, or degree evaluations.

Notes:
Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish applicants may take the ACTFL OPI, WPT.

There is no Praxis for ASL: An applicant who holds valid certification through the American Sign Language Teaching Association or valid National Interpreter Certification through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf is not required to satisfy the Sign Language Proficiency Inventory: ASL or the American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (Gallaudet University) requirement.

WVBE will examine transcripts/experience for completion of content language with no assigned Praxis test.

Use Form 25 to renewal alternative certificate located at http://wvde.state.wv.us/certification/forms/
Renewable 2 times

For first renewal: Complete the a beginning teacher internship program unless the applicant qualifies for an exemption and compete at least six hours of the required 18 hours of the alternative program. For second renewal: Complete the minimum of an additional six semester hours, for a total of 12 semester hours of alternative program.

First time applicants must complete a background check. Use Form 7.

International applicants must have transcripts evaluated by a credential service such as:

Academic and Credential Records, Evaluation and verification Service (ACREVS).
