Educator License, Class 2 Standard (MT)

Description
The Class 2 standard teaching license is the license that new graduates and teachers who do not have a master’s degree and three years of teaching experience should apply for. To qualify applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and must have completed a teacher’s preparation program which included student teaching.

Notes
Teacher programs that grant certification via testing are not considered valid.

Basic Skills
In most states, teachers must verify basic skills in English (Reading and Writing) and Mathematics through coursework, exams, or degree evaluations.

Notes
Basic proficiency in English and Math are considered to have been covered and tested in the teacher program. No additional evidence required.

Educator preparation programs must be accredited by NCATE, CAEP, or the program must be state approved from a regionally accredited college or university.

Notes:
Course work will be evaluated by the Office of Public Instruction. Irish is also available as a licensed content area.

Montana will evaluate coursework and experience on application.

Updating from Class 2 to Class 1 requires the completion of a Masters Degree and 3 years of teaching experience.

Notes:
Fingerprint fee: $27.25.
1. Request a fingerprint card from your local law enforcement office or other agency offering fingerprinting services.

2. With a pen, complete the highlighted sections which apply to you.

3. Complete the fingerprinting by the method available from law enforcement office

4. Mail the completed fingerprint card to:

Include a check for $27.25, payable to the DOJ.
DO NOT FOLD THE COMPLETED FINGERPRINT CARD.

Transcript Evaluation is required for foreign degree. Montana works most closely with:

Montana may accept evaluations from other agencies, granted all documents are provided.
