Educator License, Class 7 Native American (MT)

The Class 7 license is granted upon recommendation from a Montana tribe for Native American language and culture instruction only.

License Valid for 5 years
Must be recommended by Tribe.
Employment: Not Required

Minimum Academic Background
In most states, teachers must have a minimum academic background for certification.
The following is required for this route:

Prior Certification: Must NOT have Current (STATE) Certification

Tribal recommendation indicates knowledge of Language and Customs

Content Language and English Language Proficiency
In most states, teachers are required to submit evidence of content language proficiency and English language proficiency through coursework, exams, or degree evaluations.

Tribal recommendation indicates Content Language Proficiency matter competence.

Tribal recommendation may come from Tribes in or out of state.

Applying to the State
In most states, teachers must apply to the state Individually or through their local School District, or Teacher Program Institution. Requirements for the application are outlined below:

Background Check

Renewal: Renewable
Must complete BA degree, state-approved teacher program, and apply for Class 2 license.

Fingerprint fee: $27.25
1. Request a fingerprint card from your local law enforcement office or other agency offering fingerprinting services.

2. With a pen, complete the highlighted sections which apply to you.

3. Complete the fingerprinting by the method available from your law enforcement office

4. Mail the completed fingerprint card to:

Include a check for $27.25, payable to the DOJ.
