Interim Certificate/Credential For Out-Of-State Candidates (ID)

Description
Graduates of Accredited Degree-Granting Institutions of the “Accredited Institutions of Postsecondary Education” with a valid/current teaching certificate/license from an institution outside the U.S. may be issued a non-renewable, 3-year Interim Certificate.

State may review transcripts to determine content language proficiency.

Detailed Requirements:
20 – semester credit hours to include a minimum of 12 upper division credits in a specific world language taken within the last 10 years leading to a proficiency level as defined by a state-approved exam (for example, a passing grade on the Praxis or an Advanced level as defined by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL)). Course work must include 2 or more of the following areas: Grammar, Conversation, Composition, Culture and Literature; and course work in Foreign Language Methods.

Praxis II World Languages Pedagogy is for all languages other than French, German and Spanish.

To obtain an endorsement in a specific K-12 world language, applicants holding a Secondary Certificate must complete an elementary methods course.

Reading:
Applicants for the Interim Certificate will have 3 years to complete the Idaho Comprehensive Literacy Course (ICLA).

The ICLA is a one-time requirement for full certification and is offered through the College of Education at Idaho universities; please contact the College of Education at an Idaho university for details.

The Interim Certificate is valid for 3 years, after which, the applicant must apply for an Initial Teaching certificate which is valid for 5 years and is renewable.

Applicants must send complete packet including fingerprint card, transcripts, $75.00 application fee and $40.00 background check fee.

The Interim Certificate is valid for 3 years, after which, the applicant must apply for an Initial Teaching certificate which is valid for 5 years and is renewable
Notarized photocopy of valid out of state certificate/credential is needed.

To obtain a fingerprint card email Brenda Arnold at fingerprintrequest@sde.idaho.gov with mailing address. Once applicant receives the fingerprint card, he/she must take it to a local police department or sheriff’s office to have prints rolled on the card. Applicants then return the fingerprint card, $40 fee, and forms with the Idaho teacher application packet.

The Interim Certificate is valid for 3 years, after which, the applicant must apply for an Initial Teaching certificate which is valid for 5 years and is renewable.
