The Out of Country Certificate may be issued to those who have graduated abroad and/or do not have teaching experience or an international certificate. Maryland Department of Education must review each applicant.

Minimum Academic Background
In most states, teachers must have a minimum academic background for certification.
The following is required for this route:
BA Degree + Completed State Approved Teacher Education Program

Prior Certification: Must Hold Current (STATE) Certification

Basic Skills
In most states, teachers must verify basic skills in English (Reading and Writing) and Mathematics through coursework, exams, or degree evaluations.
The following is required for this route:

Exam(s): One exam is required. ACT also accepted.

Math:
Exam(s): One exam is required. ACT also accepted.

Notes
In place of the Praxis Core tests, Maryland will accept the following options from candidates: GRE, SAT, ACT

Teacher Preparation
In most states, teachers are required to complete training in education methods through a teacher program.

Work Experience
In some states, teachers are required to provide evidence of work experience.
The following is required for this route:
27 months of satisfactory school-related experience on the basis of which application is being made for a like or comparable Maryland teaching certificate during the past 7 years in the certification area sought years.

In most states, teachers are required to submit evidence of content language proficiency and English language proficiency through coursework, exams, or degree evaluations.
