Description
The Professional Temporary Teacher Employment Authorization allows out-of-state candidates one year to meet Michigan’s reading methods requirement.

Certificate Valid for 1 Year
Candidate has never held a Michigan teaching Certificate.

The Professional Teaching certificate may be issued once passing test scores are verified by MDE.

Minimum Academic Background
In most states, teachers must have a minimum academic background for certification.
The following is required for this route:
BA Degree + Completed State Approved Teacher Education Program
BA Degree + 18 Units for MA
BA Degree + MA Degree

Prior Certification: Must Hold Current (STATE) Certification

Notes
– BA + Completion of teacher program AND
– 18 semester credit hours in an approved out of state Master’s program OR
– BA + Completion of teacher program and MA or other higher degree.

As of 2016, No Basic Skills Exams Required

Must have valid out of state teaching certificate.

Course needed: 3 credit hours of reading methods required. Note: This authorization is for one who has not completed the required Reading Methods Coursework.

Out of state teacher program should have assessed Oral Language Proficiency.
