Temporary Authorization For A Minor Assignment (CT)

Description
The Temporary Authorization for a Minor Assignment is a temporary position where an authorized teacher may teach a subject for no more than 2 class periods per day.

Certificate Valid for 1 Year
No more than 2 periods may be taught per day. Must be in alignment with Temporary 90-Day Certificate.

Notes
At the expiration of certificate, the holder of the minor assignment shall either qualify and file application for the additional endorsement area or discontinue teaching the minor assignment.

Minimum Academic Background
In most states, teachers must have a minimum academic background for certification.
The following is required for this route:
BA Degree + 12 Hours

Prior Certification: Must NOT have Current (STATE) Certification

In most states, teachers must verify basic skills in English (Reading and Writing) and Mathematics through coursework, exams, or degree evaluations.

Praxis I PPST will be accepted until 8/31/2019 (if passed 1/02 – 8/14)

By 9/1/16 all three subtests of Praxis Core MUST be passed from one test type, either PPST or Core, but not a mix of the two.

Praxis I Waiver – Applicants may waive Basic Skills tests if they meet score requirements on either:

GRE (http://www.ets.org/gre)
PAA – ESLA/TOEFL

Content Language and English Language Proficiency
In most states, teachers are required to submit evidence of content language proficiency and English language proficiency through coursework, exams, or degree evaluations.

Will NOT Accept Scores from Out of State

Notes:
ACTFL Score – Intermediate High. An Excellence Score of Advanced Mid may be used to replace subject area coursework.

Applicant who completed an out-of-state teacher program and/or teaching experience may be eligible for 1 year deferral of testing requirements.

Applicants may be exempt from ACTFL OPI WPT, if they meet the following criteria:

1. Hold a valid certificate in another state that is equivalent to at least a CT Initial Educator Cert. AND have one of the following:

– 3 years experience in the same state (in the same approved nonpublic school or public school system) in the past 10 years

OR

– MA degree.

Renewable once only and will require an additional six (6) semester hours of credit in the area requested. The candidate must qualify for and obtain the endorsement or discontinue teaching the subject/field. Turn in form ED 173 located at http://www.sde.ct.gov/sde/cwp/view.asp?a=2613&q=321402

No fee required for application but must be issued in alignment with a Temporary 90-Day Certificate or any other level of teaching certification thereafter

GENERAL NOTES FOR THIS ROUTE
Please Note:
The type and duration of the certificate issued will depend on proper documentation of your education and experience.

Official transcripts must document all course work completed. Official transcripts must include the embossed or colored seal of the issuing college or university.

Statement of Preparing Higher Education Institution must include the embossed or colored seal of the college or university and the signature of the certification officer or dean of the preparation program at the institution where the applicant was prepared.

Statement of Professional Experience must verify the completion of appropriate experience/service in Connecticut public or approved nonpublic schools, or out-of-state public or approved nonpublic schools, if applicable.
