The Temporary Certificate provides time to complete all requirements for a Professional Certificate while teaching full-time. These teachers may be working through an approved teaching education program or an alternative method.

Minimum Academic Background
In most states, teachers must have a minimum academic background for certification.
The following is required for this route:
Completed BA Degree
BA Degree + Major in Content Language
BA Degree + Enrolled in State Approved Teacher Education Program

GPA: 2.5

Prior Certification: Must NOT have Current (STATE) Certification

Applicant must demonstrate mastery of Subject Area Knowledge or meet Subject Specialization with a 2.5 GPA for a requested subject.

As of 2016, No Basic Skills Exams Required

Content Language and English Language Proficiency
In most states, teachers are required to submit evidence of content language proficiency and English language proficiency through coursework, exams, or degree evaluations.

In order to obtain a Professional Certificate, the candidate must meet all program requirements and pass all Florida Teacher Certification Examinations.


FL Fingerprint Processing Instructions:

The Florida Professional Certificate is issued after the individual’s fingerprints have been cleared. The individual seeking employment in Florida will be assisted in completing the fingerprint process by his/her employer. A U.S. citizen who is not seeking employment in Florida or has an immediate need for issuance of the Professional Certificate can contact the Bureau of Educator Certification for assistance.

Please note: If a U.S. citizen chooses to have his/her fingerprints processed prior to Florida employment for issuance of the Professional Certificate, it may be necessary to have the fingerprints reprocessed, and the individual may have to pay a second processing fee as a condition of employment in a Florida public school.
In order to obtain a Professional Certificate, the candidate must meet all program requirements and pass all Florida Teacher Certification Examinations.

Many of Florida’s colleges and universities have state-approved Educator Preparation Institutes through which they deliver alternative certification programs for baccalaureate degree holders. These programs provide professional preparation for career-changers and recent college graduates who do not already possess professional certification.
