The Temporary Chamorro Language and Culture Teaching Certificate is issued to individuals who have at least 30 semester hours of college credit with 6 hours of Chamorro language.

Minimum Academic Background
In most states, teachers must have a minimum academic background for certification.
The following is required for this route:
College with 30 Hours

Notes
GCEC does not require Chamorro teachers to take Praxis I. However, if individuals are pursuing a teacher educator preparation program at the University of Guam, then Praxis I and II (PLT) Principles of Learning and Teaching is a graduation requirement.

Content Language and English Language Proficiency
In most states, teachers are required to submit evidence of content language proficiency and English language proficiency through coursework, exams, or degree evaluations.

Language Proficiency is determined by the Chamorro Studies Division of the Guam Department of Education.

Applying to the State
In most states, teachers must apply to the state Individually or through their local School District, or Teacher Program Institution. Requirements for the application are outlined below:

Renewable ONCE ONLY with:
12 semester hours applicable to Initial Educator &/or Chamorro Language & Culture Teaching Certificate

AND

Satisfactory Performance Evaluation

After 1 Renewal you may apply for the next step in certification. This is the Basic Chamorro Certificate.

Notes:
GCEC cannot accept online applications. All forms and documents must be submitted to the the GCEC office with proof of payment.
Applicants must complete a university level course in Guam History or Guam Culture.
