Minimum Academic Background
In most states, teachers must have a minimum academic background for certification.

Completed BA Degree

GPA: 2.75

Basic Skills
In most states, teachers must verify basic skills in English (Reading and Writing) and Mathematics through coursework, exams, or degree evaluations.

Teacher Preparation
In most states, teachers are required to complete training in education methods through a teacher program.

Applying to the State
In most states, teachers must apply to the state Individually or through their local School District, or Teacher Program Institution. Requirements for the application are outlined below:

Background Check

Renewal: Renewable
First Renewal: Completion of at least 6 semester hours towards the program requirements.

Subsequent Renewals: Completion of at least 6 semester hours towards the program requirements and successfully meet all assessment requirements for certification area and submits scores to EPSB. Enrollment in the Kentucky Teacher Internship Program (KTIP).

Candidate may reapply for third Temporary Provisional Certificate if needed.

Persons interested in this option should contact the College of Education officials at the respective college or university from the list provided above. Admission and Program requirements will vary.

A candidate receives a Temporary Provisional Certificate and participates in Kentucky Teacher Internship Program (KTIP).

The candidate must complete all requirements within three years and pass all required assessments prior to entering the Kentucky Teacher Internship Program.
