Notes
University Intern Teaching Credential programs are one to two-years administered by California colleges and universities in partnership with local employing agencies and are designed to provide participants with classroom experience while they complete course work requirements for the preliminary credential.

University Intern Teaching Credentials authorize the holder to serve, under the supervision of a Commission approved
college or university and the holder’s employer, in the area or subject listed on the credential.

Minimum Academic Background
In most states, teachers must have a minimum academic background for certification.
The following is required for this route:
BA Degree + Enrolled in State Approved Teacher Education Program

Basic Skills
In most states, teachers must verify basic skills in English (Reading and Writing) and Mathematics through coursework, exams, or degree evaluations.
The following is required for this route:

English:
District Administered Exam
Exam(s): One exam is required. SAT, ACT and AP exams are also accepted. See Notes.

Math:
District Administered Exam
Exam(s): One exam is required. SAT, ACT and AP exams are also accepted. See Notes.

Notes
Basic Skills Requirement:
The SAT, ACT, AP Language/Literature, AP Statistics, AP Calculus (I, II) are accepted.

Teacher Preparation
In most states, teachers are required to complete training in education methods through a teacher program.
The following is required for this route:

Coursework to be completed with the teacher preparation program.

Work Experience
In some states, teachers are required to provide evidence of work experience.
The following is required for this route:
1 years. Teaching Experience must be in Content Language.

Content Language and English Language Proficiency
In most states, teachers are required to submit evidence of content language proficiency and English language proficiency through coursework, exams, or degree evaluations.

Exam(s): One exam is required.

Course needed: 3 year or higher degree from foreign institution in which all instruction was in content language

Notes:
CA will accept the ACTFL OPI, WPT for language exams not offered by the CSET.

Bilingual Authorization is Required:
CSET: (Content Language) + CSET World Languages Subtest IV (http://www.ctcexams.nesinc.com/about_cset.asp)

US Constitution requirement: Applicants choose to take and pass an examination given by a regionally-accredited college or university.
