Description
A teacher may be issued a visiting international teacher certificate valid for no more than three school years upon recommendation by a school district participating in an officially recognized foreign teacher exchange program.

Minimum Academic Background
In most states, teachers must have a minimum academic background for certification.
The following is required for this route:
BA Degree + Completed State Approved Teacher Education Program

Prior Certification: Must Hold Out of Country Certification

Teacher must have completed a teacher education program in their home country.

Work Experience
In some states, teachers are required to provide evidence of work experience.
The following is required for this route:
3 years years.

Content Language and English Language Proficiency
In most states, teachers are required to submit evidence of content language proficiency and English language proficiency through coursework, exams, or degree evaluations.

Notes:
State may review transcripts to determine content language proficiency.

English language proficiency exam: TOEFL-iBT (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing).

No Oral Proficiency in Content Language is required because applicants are native speakers from Spain.

Additional Fees: Fingerprinting and Criminal History Review = $47.70
First Aid/CPR: A school district shall make available annually to district employees and volunteers CPR and AED use instruction.

The Embassy in Spain conducts and certifies the absence of a criminal record in Spain on the part of the teachers soliciting the credential.

An international teaching certificate copy is required as part of the application. It is “not accepted” as part of the transcript evaluation.

GENERAL NOTES FOR THIS ROUTE
A teacher may be issued a visiting international teacher certificate valid for no more than three school years upon recommendation by a school district participating in an officially recognized foreign teacher exchange program. The program shall be based upon an agreement made between the State Board for Educator Certification and/or the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and a ministry of education in a foreign country.

Issuance of a visiting international teacher certificate does not prohibit issuance of a one-year certificate following a successful review of credentials.
