Native American Language, Pre K-12 Certificate (AZ)

Description
The Native American Language Pre K-12 Certificate allows for individuals with Native American language proficiency, verified by their own tribal assessments, to teach indigenous languages in Arizona schools. Arizona is home to more than 20 tribes and many indigenous languages are spoken.

Content Language proficiency in a Native American language shall be verified on official letterhead by a person (s) or entity designated by the appropriate tribe.

Certification may be available in the following languages: Navajo, Apache, Pai, Hopi, Maricopa, Paiute, Yaqui, Yuma, Zuni, Cocopa.

The renewal requirements are completion of 60 clock hours in a professional development program.

Among Arizona’s 22 tribes, 19 Indigenous languages are still spoken, with most speakers in Tohono O’odham, Certification may be available in following languages: Navajo, Apache, Pai, Hopi, Maricopa, Paiute, Yaqui, Yuma, Zuni, Cocopa.
