Notes
While Guam is a part of the NASDTEC interstate agreement, Guam has unique requirements for teacher certification.

Applicants must complete a university level course in Guam History or Guam Culture.

Minimum Academic Background
In most states, teachers must have a minimum academic background for certification.
The following is required for this route:
Completed BA Degree

GPA: 2.7

Basic Skills
In most states, teachers must verify basic skills in English (Reading and Writing) and Mathematics through coursework, exams, or degree evaluations.
The following is required for this route:

Math:
Exam(s): Praxis Core Required.

Notes
Praxis I scores are no longer recognized.

Content Language and English Language Proficiency
In most states, teachers are required to submit evidence of content language proficiency and English language proficiency through coursework, exams, or degree evaluations.
The following is required for this route:

Content Language Proficiency:
District Administered Exam.
Exam(s): Praxis II required.

Notes:
Content Language Requirements may be met by a degree in the language or a passing score on the Praxis II Exam.

Guam accepts the Praxis II for Chinese – Mandarin.

Praxis II test passing scores adopted by the State of Hawaii are acceptable for other content languages. Contact Guam Certification for more information.

Applying to the State
In most states, teachers must apply to the state Individually or through their local School District, or Teacher Program Institution. Requirements for the application are outlined below:

Renewal: Renewable
The Temporary Educator Certificate is renewable once.

The applicant must complete 12 semester hours applicable to the requirements of an Initial Educator Certificate within the validity period of the first certificate.
