Alaska requires teachers of world languages to hold a valid Professional Teacher Certificate issued by the Alaska State Department of Education and Early Development. To get a teaching credential in Alaska, the applicant must complete the necessary college coursework, teacher preparation program, and standardized tests required by the State of Alaska. The Teacher Certification system of Alaska has three basic tiers of certification: Initial, Professional, and Master. All new applicants are required to meet the requirements for the Initial certificate (Tier I). Applicants must hold or have held an Initial certificate in order to qualify for a Professional (Tier II) or Master (Tier III) certificate. The letter specifies the type of certification, and refers to the area, or field, of certification (Type A – Teaching, Type B – Administrative, Type C – Special Services, etc.) For additional information about certification, please, consult the Alaska State Department of Education and Early Development.
