Overview

Those who wish to teach in Nevada must first complete the state’s requirements for Nevada teacher certification. These requirements include the completion of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and the completion of a teacher preparation program. Nevada has a 3-tier licensure system. Nonrenewable (or Provisional) license is issued to teachers who are qualified to teach in Nevada but are missing certain coursework, testing or student teaching requirements. While one holds this license, he or she must work towards completing those requirements. When all of the requirements are met, the 2nd-tier license is awarded – the Standard license. It is valid for five years and can be renewed. Those who have completed 3 years of teaching under the Standard License and earned a Master’s degree or higher, qualify for a Professional license, which is valid for six years.

The State of Nevada Department of Education provides two alternative pathways to licensure for the teachers of World Languages, depending on candidates’ education and experience: the Alternative Route to Licensure (ARL), and the Special Qualifications License Route (for select endorsements). For additional information about certification, please, consult the State of Nevada Department of Education.
