Description

The traditional route to educational licensure authorizes the applicant to teach in Arkansas public schools after completing a teacher-training program approved by the state and following 1-3 years of teaching experience. The initial step in qualifying for the Standard Teacher Certification is obtaining an Initial license upon completion of a teacher preparation program and meeting the student teaching requirements. Once the Initial Teaching License is obtained and a teaching position is secured,  the candidate begins a 1-3 year induction period under the supervision of a site-based, trained mentor. The candidate can advance to the final examination only upon the mentor’s recommendation. Passing the final examination makes the candidate eligible to convert the Initial license to a Standard Teaching License.
