An alternative route is available for individuals with a bachelor’s degree in a content area, who return to college for a teaching-focused program of study that may enable them to take courses and teach simultaneously. Some of these alternative programs are offered via distance learning, some programs offer a master’s degree plus certification and some offer only the certification. For the period while the individual pursues the required course of study, he or she may qualify for a two-year Provisional Certificate. When the college program is completed and the designated assessment test passed, the college recommends the applicant for an Initial Professional Certificate (IPC).
