An alternative certification route is available to educators enrolled in a RI approved alternate route preparation program who have been offered a position in a district to serve as an educator of record. Individuals in alternative route to certification programs must hold an alternative route program certificate that allows them to serve as the teacher of record for at least one school year. Upon successful completion of all program requirements, state testing requirements, and recommendation for licensure, alternative route program certificate holders are eligible for a Rhode Island professional certificate. Alternative route program certificate falls under preliminary certifications.
