Standard Teacher Certification Route (NY)

Description

Becoming a certified teaching via a standard route involves earning a bachelor’s degree from an approved teacher preparation program at a NYS higher education institution or an out-of-state institution with a reciprocity agreement with NYS, as well as passing the appropriate New York State Certification exams.  Alternatively, a certification-seeker may earn a graduate degree from an approved teacher education program at a NYS higher preparation institutions. Upon completion of the program, the newly graduated teacher is recommended for an Initial Certificate. Candidates who are enrolled in a NYS approved graduate educator preparation program that includes internship experience may be eligible for an Internship Certificate. The Internship certificate is valid for up to two years from its effective date and not renewable.
