Candidates that hold a Bachelor’s (or higher) degree, but who have not completed an approved teacher preparation program through a regionally accredited institution of higher education, may be eligible to participate in an alternative certification program and work toward a standard certification. There are a number of alternative certification programs, such as Hawaiʻi Pacific University, iteach Hawaii, Teach for America, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa among others. For alternative preparation route look for programs grouped under “Licensure Only”, which are certification program only and do not lead to a degree; although, degree-granting programs are also available under this route.
