Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB) honors reciprocity for all 50 states, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Guam, and CNMI for jurisdictional approved preparation programs leading to licensure, licenses, and verifiable relevant experience. HTSB will evaluate non-US programs, licenses, and experiences. An individual may apply for a Hawaiʻi license after completing a State Approved Teacher Education Program in another state. This includes online and “alternative route” programs. It is the individual’s responsibility to seek confirmation in writing from the out of state preparation program and their state licensing agency that the program in which they enroll leads to a teaching license in the program’s home state.
