Traditional Certification Route (DC)

You need to login or register to save this route.

Description

The Initial Credential is issued to teachers new to the DCPS and those without two years of effective teaching experience, such as the case for (1) students currently enrolled in an approved teacher certification program (via the alternative route), (2) teachers holding certifications from another state, or (3) teachers currently employed as Regular teacher at a DC Local Education Agency (LEA), employment at which does not typically require certification. Initial teaching credentials are valid for three years. After two years of effective teaching experience the Initial Credential is advanced to a Standard Credential. Standard teacher credentials are renewable and are issued to applicants who have successfully completed all requirements for the subject area of the credential. Standard teacher credentials are valid for four years.
