The teacher licensure in the state of Montana has a tiered class system, with each class representing a special license depending on qualifications and area of licensure. Teachers seeking licensure in traditional areas of endorsement (Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Secondary, K-12) are required to hold a Class 1 (Professional Teacher’s) or a Class 2 (Standard Teacher’s) licenses. Teachers who are working towards meeting the requirements for Class 1 or Class 2 licenses may be eligible for Class 5 (Provisional) license. Class 3, Class 4, and Class 6 licenses are reserved for administrative, career and technical education, and other school specialists (School Counselors, School Psychologists, etc.).
